"Diary of My Divorce From a Depressed Stoner": New Book Provides Support for the Non-Depressed Spouse
Long Beach, Calif. (PRWEB) April 7, 2008 ?- The new book 'Diary Of My Divorce From a Depressed Stoner' by author Alex Ford provides a heartfelt memoir of how one woman survived the breakdown of her marriage to a man who suffers from severe depression and an addiction to marijuana. Her journal reveals how she made the difficult choice to leave a man she loved but could not save. She turns 40 and asks herself one question - is this the person she wants to spend the next 40 years of her life with? When the kids are gone and the baton pass stops and they actually have to spend time together? And sadly enough, the answer was no.
Excerpt from Book:
* Unsent letter to Adrian: "So here we are mid-divorce. Here?s my question: What came first, the pot smoking or the detachment? I will claim that your 'excessive' pot smoking throughout the years caused me to detach and pursue things independently because I felt I lacked a partner. You will claim my detachment encouraged your pot smoking and drinking. And so it goes round and round. The bottom line is about three years ago we detached."
Over the course of the year, following her decision to part ways, she experiences lows when dealing with the emotions of extracting from an already depressed man, financial concerns, and self-doubt about her decision. She experiences highs in the way of stronger family ties, new friendships, several romances, an exciting career, meaningful coincidences, a newfound spirituality, and a deep sense of commitment to living life fully and taking charge of her destiny.
Excerpts from Book:
* My Mother: "How do I tell my mother that I am making this decision to end a marriage partly based on a need to pursue a healthier life, but also because I do not want to repeat the mistake that she made ? staying in a loveless relationship with an alcoholic because she did not have the confidence to break out."
* Man, this is the hard part: "...the rosy outlook I projected for this divorce is not so rosy at the moment. I am dealing with a man who is immobilized by grief one minute and then aggressively confrontational the next. He is eager to see me regret my decision by making it as painful for me as possible. Our whole marriage has been like a crazy roller coaster.... let me off! I forget what is like not to have this daily drama in my life. Right now I am in the tunnel and cannot see the light at the end."
This book is not just for divorcees, but any person going through an intimate-relationship breakup, especially one with someone who suffers from depression or substance abuse. This book will provide support and optimism that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Excerpts from Book:
* Match.com: "So tonight, a little frustrated at my ability to meet a quality man, I decide to venture into an arena that I have been very skeptical of and almost judgmental about. But we will give it a try: Match.com."
* The One That Sparked My Interest: "You have, without a doubt the most intriguing profile I have ever seen on Match. Can it really be that you possess the smarts, sensitivity, beauty, and exceptional groundedness suggested in your description? Your list of wants for a partner is a bit daunting, but I'm up for the challenge. In fact, I could see aspects of myself in all the qualities you are seeking. No doubt you have a flood of admirers, but I am certain that you won't find anyone more willing or able to engage both your physical and intellectual self (even that horny professor). Daniel."
* Wow: "Wow, I have finally met him? the mystery man I described about a year ago."
Ford?s story is uplifting and provides humor and encouragement, giving the reader hope that they will get through the tunnel and the sun will be shining on the other side.
